How easy/hard is it to tile a bathroom?

I'm really keen to retile my bathroom and wondered about doing it myself. I've never done any tiling before and just wondered if I would be biting off more than I can chew?

Depends on the area. Is it just flat square sections behind the sink, bath, etc? That is easy.

If it is the whole room, it's bloody hard coz you have to cut out shapes for corners, pipes, dodgy bits etc.

I'm going to be no help whatsoever here, however thought i'd just make you feel a bit better about your efforts premptively....

I tiled my bathroom. Looked OK. Then I put the grouting on for one whole wall.

Then decided i should have bought a pair of shoes i'd seen in john lewis for a wedding.

Went and got them.

Came back 4 hours later. At which point i realised that you have to remove the spare grouting thats gone across the tiles quickly or it sets like concrete forevermore shock

Ha ha - thanks Boris - I'll bear that in mind!

I believe b&q fo short courses in stuff like tiling. Ive not been on one myself but a leaflet caught my eye because it's the kind of thing I'd like to be able to do

I've done it - worst thing was the fact that I discovered the walls were not at all straight. However, it ended up looking good.

it's not that difficult - it's messy and quite hard work, but as long as you plan it well, use the right materials, and get a good cutter it should be fine. Those tile spacers are in fact very useful if you are covering a wall that you'll be staring at from the bath looking at a lot. However, it is no fun at all if you are doing it against the clock (e.g. between a first and second fix)

Are the walls flat? You say "re-tile" so I'm guessing its been done before, so hopefully flat and a good surface? Our shower room walls were unbelievable non-flat - I saw the tiler at work and he had to do a huge amount of "adjusting" to get a ood result. But I've done smallish flat areas myself no problem, and I'm not that handy!
